Dental Implants are subject to bone loss and failure just like our natural teeth. More often than not excessive dental cement, or foreign object, is the major cause for bone loss and breakdown around an implant.
This patient (see image below) had an impacted foreign object which resulted in very quick and severe bone loss. The site was opened and bone grafted which resulted in excellent healing and regeneration within a six-month time frame.
It is imperative for patients to have their dental implants checked TWICE a year in order to prevent unforeseen issues.
